From Leigh Bailey

I first met Doug in 1991 when I was 23 years old. I was the receptionist at Matt Watson's law firm - the attorney who handled copyright Cadillac Ranch and others. He was so kind to me and saw me as more than the chick that answered the phone. Soon I was working with him on his crazily creative projects and we created Dolleniumm the dollhouse with two lesbian mothers (and made the Post "Home" section) and Heaven the sexy theme park.

Throughout the years Doug always sent me wonderfully cool letters and clippings and once he moved to Houston, my husband and I always had dinner with him at Pizzeria Paradisio when he was back in DC. When Doug invited me to his 60th birthday party, I e-mailed him that he was my "aging mentor" and I can only hope to be that cool and vivacious at nearly 60. I will miss him badly but am also glad that he died with the dolphins and not in some dreary earthbound way.
