After twenty two years of friendship, piles and piles of Michels' mailings, hours and hours of phone calls through the thick and thin of life,uncountable long and hilarious meals, I cannot quite comprehend that Doug has moved on.

Enclosed with a copy of the book "Killers of Eden" about the Orcas in Twofold Bay, the last postcard was dated June 13, 2003, and reads "LRF, On the sea all day yesterday....but no killer whales about. However, scores of dolphins came round to say d'day. Think and swim. XXX Doug".

It is poetically appropriate that he was in Australia, immersed in a project, spending time with dolphins... I, like the rest of you, have been immeasurably enriched by this friendship with Doug and will dearly miss our crazy, brilliant and complicated friend.
