 Doug's friends celebrated his life with the birthday cake he had designed for the occasion |
Dear Friends,
It is with such sadness that we advise you that Doug has died as a result
of a fall in Australia on or around June 12, 2003.
As you know, Doug had planned to have his 60th birthday party on Sunday, June 29. We are continuing with his plans. The party will go on as we know he would have wanted.
Please join us in a memorial birthday celebration of Doug's life on Sunday, June 29 at 3:30 pm for champagne, cake and remembrances at the home of Joe and Dabney Cortina.
If you know of anyone who would like to attend please feel free to bring them along.

The friends of Doug Michels received the above email from Doug's parents on June 17th. The memorial birthday celebration was held at the home of Joe and Dabney Cortina in McLean, Virginia.
It was truly an extraordinary day in honor of Doug's life... a day to remember for all of us. I think we were all moved by having an opportunity to meet so many of Doug's friends, as well as his family, who many of us were previously introduced to via emails, now archived on the Friends page. It was wonderful to meet the personalities behind the names on the emails we have shared in the past weeks.
There is so much to tell about this day, as Doug's creative and visionary spirit was present in every nook and cranny of the Cortina's home.
